When most people think of polymer clay they’ll either think of jewellery and buttons or small novelty animals. It’s certainly never really been taken seriously as a medium for high art. Well Russian artist Michael Zajkov is changing those preconceptions. Michael creates the most freakishly realistic doll’s faces you could possibly imagine this side of your nightmares. The glass eyes are hand-painted in Germany whilst the hair is made from French mohair.
Reminiscent perhaps of The Shining, the dolls’ faces have the most haunting expressions that seem to hint at tortured secrets and shadowy pasts. Could you sleep with one of these on your bed? I know I wouldn’t get as much as a wink of sleep!
